The DAAD Leadership for Africa Master’s Scholarship Programme is designed to empower young refugees and national scholars from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Uganda. Our mission? Objectives of the Programme
At DAAD, we believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities. Our Leadership for Africa initiative aims to:
- Support Academic Advancement: Provide scholarships for Master’s studies in Germany across all fields except medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, law, fine arts, and architecture.
- Foster Future Leaders: Equip scholars with essential skills in good governance, civil society, and career development through a complementary training programme.
- Drive Sustainable Development: Empower scholars to become catalysts for positive change in their home countries, even in times of conflict and displacement.
Eligibility Requirements
Are you eligible to apply? The programme welcomes two distinct groups:
- Highly Qualified Refugees: Individuals holding refugee status in their host countries, with completed Bachelor’s degrees and aspirations for Master’s studies in Germany.
- Graduates from East Africa: Citizens of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, or Uganda, residing in their home countries, and eager to pursue Master’s studies in Germany.
Funding Details
What does the scholarship include? Here’s what successful applicants can expect:
- German Language Course: Up to 6 months of intensive language training in Germany, including test fees and accommodation.
- Tuition-Free Degree Programme: Pursue your M.A. or M.Sc. at a public or state-recognized university in Germany, starting in the winter term of 2025.
- Financial Support: Receive a monthly scholarship rate of 934 EURO, along with health, accident, and liability insurance.
- Additional Training: Participate in the mandatory LEAD! programme for enhanced leadership skills and career development.
- Travel Allowance: Assistance for travel expenses to and from Germany, as well as a yearly study allowance.
