Requirements for Eligibility

General Requirements

  • Be a Woman: Applicants must identify as female and hold nationality and residency in an African country.
  • Educational Background: Candidates must be enrolled in an African university or possess a university degree awarded by an African institution. For postgraduate scholarships, a Bachelor’s degree is mandatory. The specific degree required may vary based on the scholarship category applied for.
  • Scholarship Specifics: Each applicant may submit only one application.

Technical and Academic Requirements

  • Thorough Research: It is imperative to meticulously review the academic prerequisites outlined in the scholarship description and on the university’s website, accessible via the provided link for each scholarship.
  • Document Submission: Successful candidates must furnish the host university with legalized, certified, and translated copies of their university degree, academic transcripts, and any other requested documentation. Initiating the administrative process promptly upon scholarship acceptance is advisable, as embassy/consulate and governmental procedures may be time-consuming.
  • Certification: Beneficiaries must present a university-issued certificate verifying their eligibility for the chosen course of study (Master’s or Ph.D.).
  • Technical Infrastructure: Applicants pursuing online scholarships must possess a properly equipped computer to facilitate virtual learning, including internet connectivity, compatible web browsers, operating systems, desktop applications, webcams, and Zoom/Microsoft Teams software.

Language Proficiency Requirements

  • Language Skills: Proficiency in the language of instruction is essential, with a high level of proficiency (B2 or C1) mandated by the host university. Language competency must be substantiated through official language certification or a telephone interview with university representatives.
  • Communication: Successful applicants can expect communication via email and, potentially, phone calls from the Women for Africa Foundation. Interaction with foundation personnel will be conducted in the language corresponding to the applied-for scholarship.

Coverage Details

  • Online Scholarships: These scholarships exclusively cover tuition fees.
  • Face-to-Face Scholarships: Encompassing tuition fees, round-trip travel expenses, lodging, meals (either on-campus or through a monthly stipend), and health insurance.
  • Additional Expenses: It is important to note that certain expenses, such as re-enrollment fees, internet connectivity, visa issuance fees, document legalization, and personal expenditures, are not guaranteed to be covered by the scholarship.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Document Review: A specialized committee will assess applications based on the submission of a Curriculum Vitae (CV), reference letter(s), motivation letter, language proficiency proof, and project/concept note (if required).
